International Insitute of Business Arrives in NZ

A group of local IT professionals is establishing the New Zealand chapter of the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA).

Paul Ramsay, one of the IIBA (NZ) co-founders, believes that one of the benefits of having a local chapter is "Providing a forum for practical discussion and professional development".

The Canadian-based IIBA is a non-profit organisation dedicated to business analysis professionals, largely within the information technology sector.  It aims to be the leading world-wide professional association developing and maintaining standards for the practice of buiness analysis and for the certification of practitioners.

In support of this, IIBA is currently developing a programme of certification for business analysts and related education providers with the goal being to offer international certification from 2007 onwards.  Richard Gibson, another of the local co-founders, sees IIBA's local establishment as "providing a much-needed vehicle to fill the current void in BA certification".

IIBA was established in 2003 and now has over 1,630 members in 29 countries with membership growing exponentially - this last year by 60%.  "The New Zealand chapter will be the first international one outside of IIBA's North American base," says Helen Ronnenbergh, another of the co-founders.

The launch of the NZ chapter will take place in Wellington on 4 May 2006 and will be opened by Ross Hughson (CIO, Inland Revenue and a past "Computerworld Magazine CIO of the Year") together with Kathleen Barret, the International President of the IIBA (live from Canada).

This inaugural event will be held at the National Library Auditorium on the corner of Aitken and Molesworth Streets, 4th May 2006 from 12.00pm to 1.00pm followed by light refreshments.
